Hello, Mulibwanji. Here’s to 2023! We are excited to see what the new year brings! We hope you had a restful holiday, thank you for being an important part of the BFM family, we appreciate your sacrifice to help impact our community.
Malawi has faced the worst cholera outbreak in decades. As of now, all 29 districts have reported cholera cases since the confirmation of its first case in March 2022. The cumulative confirmed cases and deaths reported since the onset of the outbreak are 21,024 and 704 respectively. To support the government in creating a safe environment for learning, Building Futures in Malawi plans to improve sanitation in the schools that we work with by distributing water treatment disinfectants such as chlorine and water guard. Waste bins will also be donated to schools to avoid poor garbage disposal.
In 2023, we will be able to accomplish some amazing things through our ongoing projects. We will continue supporting 30 vulnerable students with school fees and learning materials, train 500 girls in sewing, and continue to distribute learning materials to rural schools and libraries. Environmental education will keep going with tree planting in schools. We will also continue to provide nutritious porridge to school children at Mkanthama school through a feeding program.
We have introduced a volunteer program that will give a chance to individuals who are willing to visit and explore our projects as well as Malawi in general. Currently, we are piloting a student mentorship program for Malawi and UK schools. We look forward to working with you.
